Dr. Scaife received his BA in Chemistry from Cornell University in 1959. He received his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry
from Cornell in 1966. He was a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of York, York, England 1966-67 and he was a visiting Professor at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM, 1978-79.
Dr. Scaife served as a Teaching Assistant at Cornell University 1961-64 and was a DuPont Teaching Fellow. He conducted tutorials and laboratories in physical inorganic analytical chemistry, University of York, York, England. He served as an Assistant Professor at Middlebury College, VT, 1967-72; was Associate Professor at Union College, 1972-82; Chemistry Department Chairperson, 1972-78 and 1991-93 and has been a Professor since 1982.
Professor Scaife has presented numerous workshops for students and for parents and students. He spent his sabbatical year traveling throughout the Northeast U.S. presenting workshops in various schools for students during classtime and for parents and students in the evenings. He has published a number of articles in the Journal of Chemical Education and several laboratory experiments books.
Dr. Scaife has served a science fair judge in many science fairs. His awards include the Armed Services Chemical Society Award, 1959; DuPont Teaching Fellowship, 1963-64 and was elected as a Danforth Associate in 1974.
Dr. Scaife has served as Academic Advisor and Workshop Designer to SCIBUS, Scientific Corporations Interested in Bringing Up Scientists for the NSTA National Convention, Philadelphia, March 23-26, 1995.
